Pet friendly beaches:

Dogs are allowed on the following beaches from 6am to midnight, October 15th through April 30th and from May 1st to October 15th dogs are only allowed 6am-8am and 6pm-midnight. Dogs must be leashed or under strict vocal control. 

  • Cape Neddick Beach, Cape Neddick ME
  • Long Sands Beach, York ME
  • Short Sands Beach, York ME
  • Kennebunk Beach, Kennebunk ME
  • Wells Beach, Wells ME

Dogs are NOT allowed at Ogunquit Beach or Moody Beach from April 1st to September 9th. 

From September 10th to March 31st, dogs are allowed to roam Ogunquit Beach from the Footbridge Beach walkway north to Moody Beach, and only on the ocean side.  Dogs MUST remain on a leash or under strict voice control. It is important to keep dogs away from the fenced in areas along the dunes, which are there to protect Maine’s Piping Plovers, an endangered species of bird. 

Places to walk your dog:

There are many places to bring your furry loved ones during the hot days of summer and throughout the year. Some of these places include:

Wiggly Bridge, York ME
The wiggly bridge includes nice walking trails through a wooded area along the York River.

Fisherman’s Walk, York ME
A paved and gravel trail along the beautiful York River. This area can be quite sunny, so make sure to bring your sunscreen.

Mt. Agamenticus, York ME
Mt. Agamenticus has several miles of hiking trails of varying difficulty. Paths are well-marked and there is a lovely view of Southern Maine from the top. People and dogs must stay on the marked trails. Don’t forget your bug spray.

Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge, Wells ME
This beautiful trail is a one mile walk along marshlands. Dogs are allowed anytime of day and must be leashed to minimize the disturbance of the wildlife. The trail is open every day, from dawn to dusk.
